   Hi Brad and Ben,

   Thanks for offering such a great and useful toolbox for wave simulation. I am new to K-wave toolbox, and the elastic wave simulation is of primary interest to me. I ran the latest example codes without any issue.

   I have a question and hope you can advise: does the current k-wave elastic module support inserting a perfect reflector in the medium (e.g., by specifying the grid locations) to represent a material flaw (e.g., a crack) and incorporate this in the simulation? In short, I would like to insert flaws in an elastic material block and simulate the pitch-echo transducer data in industrial NDE scenarios. Again thanks for your time.

   Hi guanx,

   There is currently no way to explicitly specify a boundary condition (e.g., a perfectly reflecting interface) within the medium (although you might like to see this post). The alternative is to define a region with an impedance mismatch, for example using an increased value of sound speed and density.

   One point to note, if you do increase the sound speed, I'd recommend setting the value of medium.sound_speed_ref to the sound speed in the elastic block, as this will minimise the numerical dispersion (see also Section 2.7 in the manual).
