increased scattering visible with depth

I had an issue where the deeper structures were not being visualised and I played around with TGC settings as suggested here to get them to be visible.

I notice increased acoustic scattering with depth. I was wondering if this is also due to the TGC settings or if something else is happening?

The transmitted signals are attenuated more as they travel deeper into the phantom and back, so the reflected signals will be smaller relative to the background / noise. You see the same phenomena in real images.
