   Hello Dr.Treeby,

   I want to use a plane piston transducer with incidence angles at different degrees. When I use an angled transducer mask, I observe some staircase issue which doesn't represent angled transducer accurately. Then I encountered this example (http://www.k-wave.org/documentation/example_tvsp_steering_linear_array.php#heading2). I think this might be a good solution but I was wondering why you wouldn't prefer to use the steering method in your study: "The contribution of shear wave absorption to ultrasound heating in bones: Coupled elastic and thermal modeling". Do you think that the physical mask and electronic steering are different representations?

   Hi Andrea,

   For this paper, I wanted to use the same approach for both planar and focused transducers. They were defined using makeArc and the position rotated as shown in the paper. You are right that staircasing will have an effect on both the beam pattern and the amplitude (although the sampling was pretty high and these errors are the same for the simulations with and without elastic waves). The best approach now would be to use the kWaveArray class which eliminates staircasing arfectacts altogether.

   Bradley,

   I understand. My goal is to design a sparse hemispherical ultrasound phased array. Basically, I am planning to remove half of the elements given this transducer: https://imgur.com/a/R5R4GqR and driving the remaining elements with a long tone burst. The individual elements are flat piston transducers and the center frequency of the transducer is 1 MHz. I was wondering the kWaveArray is suitable for this purpose. or Do you recommend any other classes in k-Wave for this transducer design?
