I read the example "Photoacoustic Image Reconstruction".I am studying proton-induce acoustic propagation.I have the initial pressure caused by proton beam. The particle source is not a photon.Can i use the code in Help like Time Reversal to perform image reconstruction?

If your setup can be modelled as an initial value problem (i.e., the pressure rise due to the proton absorption meets stress confinement), then yes, you can use these functions.

Can i use source.p instead of source.p0 as initial pressure in Time Reversal Example? I want to study a time varying source.

Time reversal in the context of photoacoustic tomography is solving an inverse initial value problem. If you use a time varying source for the forward problem, you will need to consider when to "stop" the time reversal reconstruction and extract the image, so it's not straightforward. There's likely literature from other fields related to source localisation that you could look at, but I'm not very familiar with it I'm afraid.

When I reconstruct the initial pressure in a heterogeneous tissue using the Time Reversal method, the reconstructed pressure is much smaller than the initial pressure. Whether I set medium.alpha_mode = 'no_dispersion' or not,the result seems to be the same.Do you have an idea of why this may be the case?

Does the sensor mask completely enclose the heterogenous tissue? If not, then the amplitude of the reconstructed pressure will be lower. Keep in mind the issue of artefact trapping also.

In my work, I use a lot of detectors. They are placed evenly on the edge of the heterogeneous tissue. But I use point reconstruction instead of interpolated reconstruction.
And when I increase the number of detectors，the amplitude of reconstructed pressure is still low.
In this article, the authors use only 16 detectors, but the reconstruction pressure is almost the same as the initial pressure.
