I am using K wave for modeling underwater acoustic imaging objects. when I tried to increase the depth of the object from the sensor array, I was not able to detect the object. Because no signal will be reached to that depth. Is there any limitation for signal strength in Kwave? I used 500KHZ frequency with a strength 100MPa. Can I use Kwave for modeling an underwater object placed at 3 or more meters apart from the sensors?
There is no problem with modelling a variety of source strengths / propagation distances / frequencies. The limitation is with the dynamic range. The perfectly matched layer which absorbs the outgoing waves on the edge of the computational domain gives between -60 dB and -80 dB of attenuation, depending on the scenario (see e.g., here). If your wave decays by more than this amount (e.g., due to spherical spreading), then it won't be "detectable" above the waves that aren't absorbed by the PML.
